Whether you are working, in class, or observing the holiday, please take time today to honor all U.S. military veterans for their selfless dedication and service to our country. We extend our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all veterans for their sacrifices on behalf of our great nation.

  • The town’s sidewalks and ramps at our entrance driveway will be completed today, Friday, October 25. The state is waiting for parts to complete the crossing signals within the next few months.
  • The beautiful warm weather we’re enjoying outside is presenting some challenges because our main cooling system has been winterized. Thank you for your patience as we transition to the fall/winter seasons.  If you are experiencing warmer conditions, please send an email to as-maint-request@acc.commnet.edu.
  • Congratulations to Joe Muller for receiving the prestigious Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow Award, which recognizes individuals who go above and beyond in serving the community.
  • We will be involved in the process of CT State to become a Hispanic Service Institution (HSI).  CT State Asnuntuck student body is 18% Hispanic/Latine for the Fall 2024 semester.  A development committee is being convened, and we need to provide a representative.  If you are interested in serving in this role, please send Maura Kernan an email by Friday, 11/01/2024.
  • Thank you to everyone that attended our All-Campus meeting yesterday.  We spoke about shared governance, and we will have future meetings.  At this time, I have charged our College Council to revise their charter, so we have an interim shared governance body until we establish our new shared governance structure.  This revision will be shared with the campus for feedback.

Update on the evacuation this morning:

This morning, staff in the Mechatronics area reported a gas odor to security.  Security and Joe Muller responded, and the building was evacuated.  The fire department arrived and used their equipment, which detected a small amount of natural gas on the roof above the smaller welding shop.  One of our contractors, Modern Mechanical, had replaced a fan yesterday and planned to return next week to complete the work.  The gasket within the pump was not replaced, and it was found to be the cause of a small leak.  The gas and electricity are off to the pump area until the work is completed on Monday.

Workers are applying the paint by brush and roller to minimize the smell.  They will coordinate use of the Auditorium’s rooftop unit to bring fresh air directly into the Auditorium, and fans and air-scrubbers to direct the exhaust air down the side corridor and directly to the outside. If painting will begin on Friday, classes in Classroom 131 will be relocated, the Wellness Coordinator will be relocated to another space, and the homework lab may only be accessible from the library and tutoring office. If painting is not completed this weekend, it may resume next Friday and should be completed by next weekend.

Fall 2023 Census Report

Letter from Susan Winn, Director of Degree Audit Technology about CT State graduation application

Good morning, Campus Supervisors and Campus Advising Leads.   The Graduation application for December 2023 conferral is now available to students in myCTState on the student card (see screen shot below “Apply for Graduation”).   The application will be available for students once they have completed over 41 credits for the Associate Degree (certificates have a smaller range based on total number of credits).  Once students submit the online graduation application, they will automatically be marked as “AP” for applied in SHADEGR.  Once the audit is performed, students will be marked as “PN” for pending or “MJQ” for missing major requirements.

A couple of important notes about the online graduation application:

  • Students must be registered in the Fall 23 semester to access the December application.  Otherwise, please have them email the degree auditor for the student’s home campus for assistance.
  • If a student is applying for a degree and certificate both, they must fill the graduation application for each credential.
  • The deadline to apply for December conferral is December 15th.Screenshots at the end of this letter show the application process.
  • Step 1: Student will select degree or certificate program (student must have declared that program and it must be entered in Banner for the graduation application to appear for that program).
  • Step 2: Student will see the ceremony date for their home campus (the home campus that is declared in Banner) and asked to RSVP for May ceremony date for their campus.
  • Step 3: Student will select their name for the diploma.   Students can edit first and middle name.  Last name will remain the same as their legal name entered in Banner.   The diploma is a ceremonial document—the legal name will remain on the transcript.
  • Step 4: Student will see a summary page of the information to be submitted (please note we are not asking students for a diploma mailing address as some campuses will have students pick up their diplomas. In the confirmation letter to students, we will ask them to update their address in myCTState.)
  • Step 5: Acknowledgement that the student has submitted their application (we’ve also added a note to have the student print this page for their records).

Applications for future terms:

  • The application for May 2024 conferral will be available starting in November (once registration for the Spring 24 semester begins).
  • The application for August 2024 conferral will be available in April 2024 (once registration for Summer 24 semester begins).

We are looking forward to graduating our inaugural class for CT State!  We encourage you to share this information with the student-facing staff on your campus.   Please reach out to the degree auditor for your campus with any questions.   Thank you!

News Updates:

  • We need to remind all employees and students of the importance of swiping in and out each day at one of the PeopleTrack scanners.  As mentioned by President Maduko in his email yesterday, modifying facility hours of operation are a measure that is under consideration per our budget mitigation strategies.  Having everyone’s cooperation with swiping in and out of PeopleTrack will increase the accuracy of knowing how many students and employees are on the campus each day. In addition to having accurate data to inform discussions, the daily headcounts logged into PeopleTrack are used for justifying days and hours for the café to be open, staffing levels for security,  parking and traffic issues, and safety and security aspects during an emergency.  Please swipe in on one of the PeopleTrack scanners every day.  If you experience problems with the scanner not recognizing your card, please let Campus Security know, so they can determine if you need a new ID card, if you are swiping properly, or if repairs or adjustments are needed to the hardware or software.
  • Work is underway to secure sponsorships and foursomes for our fall Golf Tournament, which will be held October 4th at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, MA.

It is critical for everyone to adhere to the speed limit on campus, be alert to pedestrians, and watch for cars backing out of spaces.  Please stop for pedestrians.  Pedestrians also need to be alert and aware of their surroundings and not distracted by phones when walking to and from the buildings.  To encourage safety and compliance, we have installed speed bumps at various locations around the campus.  It is recommended to slow down to no more than 3-5-mph when driving over a speed bump to avoid adverse impact on your vehicle. News Updates

Dear Campus Community,

We need your help.  Discussions regarding the state budget and overall funding for CSCU are ongoing. While the Appropriations Committee provided increased funding over the Governor’s proposal, the funding still falls significantly short of the anticipated needs for our campus operations and could negatively impact our students. If we want CSCU to continue to be the state’s primary engine of workforce development, upward mobility, and opportunity for our residents, we need to fully fund our operations.  Below please see highlights from President Cheng’s email:

  • If you would like to advocate for increased funding please join us, and representatives from across the system, on Thursday, April 27, for a CSCU day of action at the Capitol. Students, faculty, staff, and administrators will gather to speak with legislators about the importance of the CSCU system and how the current budget proposal would harm institutions, students, employees, and the communities we serve.
  • Students who are not working or in class and employees are encouraged to participate. Employees should discuss their plans with their supervisor to ensure that department operations, adequate coverage, staffing, etc. are maintained.
  • We will meet in the Atrium of the Legislative Office Building (LOB) at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to the Capitol where we will engage and lobby members outside the House and Senate chambers, where they are expected to gavel in at 11:00 a.m. We anticipate the event will last two to three hours. Also, we encourage you to wear your Asnuntuck apparel/gear.
  • We appreciate any and all outreach (calls and emails) to our legislators in support of increased funding.  Please see this link to find your legislators.

Please view the Capitol News Briefing that occurred this morning at the LOB.

Thank you in advance for your participation and support of these important efforts.  Please send along any questions you have.
