How to Establish a Scholarship
Minimum Funding Requirement: $5,000.00
- Determine what study at ACC the scholarship is to fund (may be general or specific).
- Determine criteria by which recipient is to be selected, including whether and what financial criteria are to be considered.
- Decide preference if original terms cannot be met in perpetuity (for instance, what should happen if scholarship funds a program the college discontinues).
- Define attribution of moneys: whether and how much goes to endowment (which is permanently restricted and by law cannot be spent; only the interest it generates) and how much is temporarily restricted (which can be spent, but only as donor preference allows). This includes defining whether future donations to this scholarship must be endowed or may be temporarily restricted.
Example
The {insert name of your choice} Scholarship recognizes outstanding achievement in the {insert field of your choice} and commitment to continuing study in {insert field}.
Donated funds can be endowed and reinvested until the corpus is of sufficient size to generate $250 in interest or earnings.
