Last year I was fortunate enough to attend the ‘Supervisory Skills Program’ at Asnutuck Community College in Enfield, CT. While I have attended a variety of supervisory/managerial training seminars over the past 15 years, I found this particular program to be the most valuable. I am very pleased that the company I work for cared enough to invest in their Leadership Team by providing this level of training.
The instructor of the ‘Supervisory Skills Program’ was excellent…great communicator, energetic, and personable. He began the training by stating the best way to get the most out of this program was to ‘Participate, Learn and Have Fun!’ That turned out to be very solid advice. The program taught many of the skills necessary in a leadership position, such as Fundamentals of Communication, Dealing with Conflict, Reducing Stress in the Workplace, Positive Discipline, Coaching and Improving Employee Work Habits, etc. First we learned about ourselves through a D.I.S.C. assessment, then learned how to best lead each differing personality type we encounter day to day.
The program material consisted of lecture, videos, literature, discussion and practice ‘skits’ of the techniques being taught. I still find it very helpful that all of the materials we studied were given to us to keep for future reference. As such, I have my complete program binder at my work desk and am able to ‘refresh’ myself in any area I feel necessary, whenever I like. That’s a valuable safety net to have in a front-line leadership position!
I would strongly encourage anyone who is looking to learn, or simply sharpen their leadership skills to enroll in this program.

It was incredible; the amount of information that was given to us has been so useful. I find myself using the problem solving techniques at work and in my home life. I feel I am a better leader, friend, mentor and father because of the training I had received through the classes given to us at Asnuntuck College. I find myself using these techniques and teaching them to others to help them with their growth in the company. I could go on and on about each class and how they have helped me and what I had learned, but I think it is best for anyone that is interested in becoming a strong, positive leader in any organization, that they should attend these classes for themselves.
