Asnuntuck Community College’s Continuing Education department will be offering a variety of courses related to Yoga and Reiki beginning this May.

Instructor Diana Ricci Gunther will be offering two different 10 week sessions of Kripalu “All Levels” Yoga at Asnuntuck Community College. The sessions will focus on therapeutic yoga poses. Students, through practice, will tone and strengthen muscles. The classes will also help students improve their flexibility. Students can register for Monday classes which will run May 12th to June 21st (no class May 26th) from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. or opt for Wednesday classes May 14th to July 16th from noon to 1 p.m. Both sessions have a fee of $100. Drop in is also an option with a rate of $12 per class.

Linda Tria, RMT, CST, LMT will be teaching two levels of Reiki at Asnuntuck in May and June. Both will offer training and certification. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. This holistic technique uses universal life force energy. Students will be taught how to use this soft touch on and or above a fully clothed body. Students will learn the history and techniques of Reiki. This class will be interactive with students giving treatments to themselves and to others in the class.

Tria, who owns Healing Essence in Ellington, recommends that students who have not experienced a Reiki treatment receive one from the instructor prior to the first night of class. That session will be offered at a discounted rate. Reiki 1 will be offered Mondays, May 5th and May 19th from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Reiki II is available for students who have completed Reiki I and earned a certificate. Students who have taken the Reiki I course with a Reiki Master Teacher other than Tria will meet with her prior to the first class. This second course will also cover distant healing. Reiki II will meet Mondays, June 9th and 23rd from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Students for both Reiki I and Reiki II will pay the instructor $25, on the first night of class, for the book and materials. The fee for each of the courses is $148.00.
