The Springfield, MA Kiwanis recently presented Carol LaLiberte, Asnuntuck Community College’s Early Childhood Education Coordinator, with the generous gift of 24 backpacks filled with the book, If I Ran the Zoo by Dr. Seuss.  This donation was made by the Assistant Treasurer, Stewart Creelman.  Dr. Seuss was a past president of the Springfield chapter of Kiwanis.  The mission of Kiwanis International is “serving the children of the world,” which connects nicely with Asnuntuck’s provision of free onsite child care for our students known as the Reading Room.  Carol was a keynote speaker at the January meeting of the Springfield chapter and is pleased to be affiliated with this service organization.  “The work of the Springfield Chapter includes supporting Key Clubs in area high schools, hosting bike safety events and literacy initiatives for children and families.  Kiwanis partners with others, using the mission of one child, one community as their guide.  I am grateful to them and especially Stew for reaching out and thinking of Asnuntuck’s students by providing welcoming backpacks and books that will be given out as children transition into the Reading Room this fall.”
