Whether you are looking to “leave” life’s stressors behind or obtain some valuable skills you can always “fall” back on, Asnuntuck Community College’s Office of Workforce Development & Continuing Education has you covered this October.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the field of healthcare is projected to create 3.2 million new jobs by 2018. Break into this fast-growing industry by registering for Massage Therapy or Medical Coding this month. Like all of Asnuntuck’s certified healthcare certificates, Massage Therapy and Medical Coding students are eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program (S.N.A.P) scholarships,  free transportation via Enfield’s Magic Carpet bus service and the college’s free, cooperative child-care service. Restrictions apply.

Not looking for a career change? How about increasing your value at present place of employment by enhancing your skills in Quickbooks (Oct. 1 and 29), Word (Oct. 7 and 14), Powerpoint (Oct. 13 and 20) and Excel (Oct. 27). Our one-of-a-kind Substitute Teacher’s Training Institute – running Oct.26-30 – will also give its attendees a leg up on the competition in the substitute pool. A collaboration with between Kelly Educational Staffing, Asnuntuck Community College and Enfield’s K.I.T.E Program, qualified Substitute Teacher’s Training Institute graduates literally go to the top of the list when it comes time to call substitutes.

Somewhere between “I always wanted to,” “just-for-fun” and “why not?” are Asnuntuck’s personal enrichment courses, where Reiki (Oct. 5) meets Body Butters (Oct. 19) and Digital Photography (Oct. 3) gives way to Healing Balms (Oct. 26). The mysterious Séance (Oct. 24) also arrives just in the time for the Halloween season and Educating The Picker (Oct. 20) instructs attendees on best practices for unearthing – and unloading – collectible treasures.
