The Enfield Teachers Association recently donated $200 toward a new playground for Asnuntuck Community College’s free Children’s Reading Room. They also donated several hundreds of dollars, worth of age-appropriate books, to the Reading Room. The Reading Room is a free childcare facility available to all students, staff and faculty. The ETA joins individual donors and Westfield Bank, who in 2015 committed $15,000 toward the construction of the new playground. Construction is anticipated to begin on the playground in 2018. The free childcare service, offered to registered students, staff & faculty at Asnuntuck Community College, was established in 1974. There are currently 45 children of 34 student parents registered in the Reading Room. The Children’s Reading Room is unique in that it functions on a cooperative basis. Each parent is required to volunteer two hours per week regardless of how much time they utilize the service for their child. Parents can leave their child while they attend classes, do research, computer work, study, do homework, or any other educational activities while on campus.
