Students from Asnuntuck Professor Edwina Trentham’s class, Poetry and Women’s Lives, will share their poetry at a Coffee House reading on Monday, April 15, 2013. The reading is part of Asnuntuck Community College’s ongoing Coffee House Series and will take place in Café II from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the college on 170 Elm Street, Enfield. Students in the class have been reading and writing poetry throughout the semester exploring different aspects of women’s lives, including identity, the body, birth, mothering, illness, and death. The poems they have written in response to these topics and others are courageous and powerful. The following poets will be sharing their work: Alaina Albert, Valerie Bak, Patrica Barone, Barbara Batt, Andrée Beaudoin, Diane Boudreau, Jamie Crepeau, Stephanie Doucette, Heidi Dube, Jennifer Fuller, Morgan Handy, Dixie Izzo, Rachel Larensen, April Martin, Victoria Oliver, Samantha Runyon, Ashanti Smith, Shamika Smith, Harthe Stefaniak, Jay Thumar, Gina Truiolo, and Allison Zaczynski. In addition, Asnuntuck English Instructor Joe Finckel will play music and sing before and during the reading, and an open music and poetry mic will follow the reading. The reading, which is sponsored by Asnuntuck’s poetry journal Freshwater, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served, and copies of Freshwater 2012 will be on sale.
