Asnuntuck Community College’s Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education Eileen Peltier hosts this month’s episode of “Changing Lives.” Her guests are Kelly Krivacs, Instructor of Esthetician Program; Stacy Fitzgerald, Instructor of Cosmetology Program and Elaine Pignone, a student in Asnuntuck’s Cosmetology Program.

Dean Peltier and the guests discussed Asnuntuck’s new Cosmetology Program. Elaine shared her enthusiasm as a student in the Cosmetology program.

Asnuntuck’s Cosmetology program trains students in both theory and practical experience to prepare them to pass the Connecticut State Board Examination. In order to be licensed in Connecticut students must successfully complete 1500 hours in hairdressing and cosmetology education, as well as pass the State of Connecticut exam. Students have the opportunity to take the Massachusetts exam after completing this program to earn certification in both states. The program includes 200 hours of classroom instruction and 1,300 hours of clinical instruction.

They also discussed Asnuntuck’s Esthetics program. New Connecticut law requires students to complete a 600-hour esthetics program at an approved Connecticut institution before they can receive an esthetics license.

Produced by volunteers, Asnuntuck’s “Changing Lives” program airs on PATV 15, on Thursdays at 8 p.m. and Fridays at 11 a.m. The program can be viewed online by going to the website – Asnuntuck Changing Lives.
