January’s episode of Asnuntuck Community College’s Changing Lives program is hosted by ACC Dean of Continuing Education and Workforce Development, Eileen Peltier. The episode focuses on   available funding to help people attend college to start or change careers. Guests include Alex Johnson, Acting President and CEO of Capital Workforce Partners; Peter Palermino, Program Manager, Connecticut Department of Social Services, Economic Security Unit; Holly Battige, owner of Full Circle Skin Care and Massage Therapy in Monson, Massachusetts and a graduate of Asnuntuck’s Massage Therapy program.

Asnuntuck offers associate degrees, credit certificates as well as non-credit certificates in the       following healthcare areas:

  • Medical Billing and Coding
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • Veterinary Assistant
  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Ophthalmic Assistant
  • Massage Therapist
  • Certified Sterilization Technician
  • Certified Phlebotomy and EKG Technician
  • Emergency Medical Technician
  • Certified Personal Trainer
  • Nail Technician
  • Esthetician: Basic and Advanced

During the program, Johnson speaks about the programs and services available through the American Jobs Centers that Capital Workforce Partners oversees.  Viewers are encouraged to stop by their local American Jobs Center to find out if they qualify for scholarships to attend credit classes or career training at Asnuntuck or other colleges.  In Enfield, the American Jobs Center is located at 786 Enfield Street.

Palermino speaks about the success of the Connecticut Department of Social Services’ SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Employment and Training program.  Since 2013, Asnuntuck has had a partnership to provide tuition-free healthcare career training to qualifying SNAP recipients.

Battige, owner of Full Circle Skin Care, speaks about the competitively-priced tuition of Asnuntuck’s Massage Therapy program, calling it one of the lowest-priced programs in the region.  She also talks about the ease of payment using the flexible self-pay option, the nurturing environment and high-quality instruction Asnuntuck provides to its students.
