The Carol Rivest Memorial Foundation recently made its sixth donation to Asnuntuck Community College’s Women’s Leadership Institute. This year’s $4,000 donation will be used for the Institute’s Launch Your Leadership Journey program.

“We are extremely thankful for the continued generosity of the Carol Rivest Memorial Foundation,” said Asnuntuck’s CEO Dr. Michelle Coach. She added, “The Women’s Leadership Institute will have the ability to offer opportunities and experiences that allow women to grow and become leaders at our campus and throughout life.” She continued, “The impact these funds have made extends beyond our college and into the community.

The Carol Rivest Foundation’s mission is to raise awareness of domestic violence and abuse. Carol’s 22-year old life was cut short back in 1982, when she was shot and killed, in front of her three-year old son, by her estranged boyfriend.

Carol’s sister Sheila Rivest explains, “The Carol Rivest Memorial Foundation holds an annual benefit to raise funds for domestic violence. We have live music, guest speakers and raffle prizes. This year we were lucky enough to have a great place to hold the event outdoors and social distance. Westview Creamery in Monson held the event at their beautiful venue. She continued, “Through monetary and raffle prize donations from our amazing friends, family and people in the community we were able to raise funds for domestic violence awareness. We chose to share our proceeds with the Launch Your Leadership Journey program because it provides education, resources and confidence in women.”

Sherry L. Paquette, Asnuntuck Community College’s director of student activities and co-founder of Asnuntuck’s Institute said, “We appreciate the support of the Carol Rivest Memorial Foundation as this funding enables us to be an agent for positive social change as we grow strong female leaders for our communities.”

The Institute at ACC was established to address the needs expressed by women in the ACC community to develop their leadership skills and ability.

“Thank you to Sheila Rivest and the Rivest Foundation for their continued support of our “Launch Your Leadership Journey,” said Chief Regional Workforce Development Officer, North-West Region Eileen Peltier. “Your support helps our female students as they strengthen their leadership skills and become more confident on campus, in their communities, and in their families. You are truly having an impact on these students’ lives,” added Peltier, who is also a co-founder of the Institute.

“Despite the pandemic we are offering our program, albeit virtually, and these funds will help us to ensure the high-quality experience this program is known for. Thank you, Rivest Foundation,” added Peltier, who is also a co-founder of the Institute.

Rivest added, “I wish there was such a program when my sister Carol was still alive and a young single mother. Building self-pride and having the right tools for a better future. What a great program.”
