Don’t miss the boat – or, more importantly, your chance to drive a boat this summer. Asnuntuck Community College’s Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development is proud to once again offer the Department of Environmental & Energy Protection’s three evening Combination Safe Boating/Personal Watercraft class for $25 May 17, 19 and 24. This nine-hour course is designed to fulfill the requirements for the Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate. Students must be at least 10-years-old to participate. Additionally, an eight-hour, one day class will be available June 4 at a cost of $89.

Looking to break into an in-demand industry? Several of Asnuntuck’s popular short-term, Healthcare Career Certificate programs begin in May as well including Professional Medical Coder (May 17) Veterinary Assistant (May 23) and Nail Technician (May 31).

For those looking to enhance their value at their present place of employment, ACC is also offering four professional development courses this month.

The Intentional Partnership: Managing and Influencing Upward, starting May 2nd,  will assist you as a supervisor or manager in building and sustaining an effective partnering relationship with your manager which in turn will help both of you fulfill your job responsibilities and operational priorities for the work unit. To be successful, supervisors and managers need to be effective in “managing upward,” developing and maintaining a positive and mutually supportive relationship upward with their own manager. When managers or supervisors work collaboratively in a strategic partnership with the person who manages them, their department or team is far more able to achieve its operational goals and objectives.

The “Be Your Own Coach” workshop on May 11 delivers powerful insights and techniques to make self-coaching a way of life. Learn "power questions" to clarify thinking, how to use emotion to improve professional and personal relationships, techniques for initiating and managing change, and how to develop a mindset that guarantees the progress you’re looking for.

Would you love to look forward to going to work and going home happy? Then perhaps On-the-Job Empowerment: The Art of Personal and Professional Peak Performance, beginning May 17th, is the answer you’ve been looking for! On-the-Job Empowerment may just change how you approach your work life, through examining underlying limiting beliefs and looking at ways you can eliminate “workplace toxicity” and “achievement blocks.” Participants will create individual professional empowerment plans; setting goals, charting progress, and creating practical follow-through activities.

Developing a work/life balance action plan and following it will help you live a longer, healthier life with “Achieving and Maintaining Work/Life Balance,” starting May 19th. Learn stretches, yoga poses, and mindfulness activities you can do at your desk and throughout your day to promote a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Dress comfortably.

Lastly, in the just-for-fun department, our “Pick eBay to Profit from Tag Sale Discoveries” on May 24th will teach you how to strategically post your yard sale treasures and obtain the highest yield.
