Those looking to carry through on a New Year’s resolution of trying something new can find many exciting and inspirational opportunities through Asnuntuck Community College’s Continuing Education and Workforce Development course catalog.

If learning how to paint has been on your bucket list there are three four-week opportunities to learn. ACC will be offering a Painting with Acrylics Landscape course, a Still Life Painting with Acrylics and for those who have some painting under their belt, a Painting Pet Portraits with Acrylics course. The Landscape Painting with Acrylics is being offered on Mondays beginning March 9th.  The Still Life class will be offered on Mondays, beginning on April 6th.The advanced level Painting Pet Portrait class begins on May 4th. All levels of students are welcome to enroll in the first two courses, with students completing a portrait. Students enrolling in the Pet Portrait course should have some background in painting. A completed portrait from this course will also receive a critique. A materials list is provided to students for all of classes. The classes, all taught by Michele Iglesias, are priced at $99 for each four-week course.

Beginners looking to journal in a unique and creative way can enroll in Jeanie Beresford’s Composition Book Art Journal class. Beresford, a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, has years of experience with arts and crafts.  Students will need to come in clothes they don’t mind getting messy, two composition books and any materials they would like to make their book their own. Glue and paint mediums will be used as part of the class. The one-day class is offered on February 24th from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at a fee of $39.00

Looking to sleep better, tone and strengthen muscles? All levels are encouraged to register for Kripalu Yoga at ACC. Kripalu Certified Yoga Instructor Diana Ricci Gunther will be offering three, two- week sessions beginning March 9th. Each 10- week session is offered at a drop-in rate of $12 per class or $100 for the full 10 weeks. Students are encouraged to wear loose, comfortable clothing and are required to bring a yoga mat and blanket.

Reiki I and II training will be offered during February and March from 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m.. Reiki is a holistic healing technique that uses universal life force energy. It is a gentle relaxation modality using soft touch on and/or above the body (fully clothed). Reiki I will be held February 23rd and March 9th. The fee is $148. The classes are taught by Linda Tria. Students will need to pay $25 the first night of class for the cost of the book and class materials. Class participants are required to receive a Reiki treatment from the instructor prior to the first night of class. This session will be offered at a discounted rate. Reiki II Training and Certification is available for those who have completed Reiki I. The same costs are attached to this course as Reiki Training and Certification I. Reiki II is offered on March 23rd and April 6th also from 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m.

If you have wanted to connect with the other side, two events will be held in upcoming months at ACC. The Art of Mediumship will be held on Saturday, March 28th from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Elaine Kuzmeskus, author of The Making of a Medium will lead the group.  The second event, scheduled for Saturday, April 18th, is Physical Links to the Other Side. Limited to 15 participants, Kuzmeskus will answer questions, share information about Spirit Art, Materialization and, also have a demonstration of table tipping. The session runs from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
