Michael Stefanowicz has been named Asnuntuck Community College’s Dean of Academics. Stefanowicz brings nearly 20 years of community college experience to his new position. The Dean had served as Division Director for Liberal Arts at Manchester Community College (MCC) since 2010. He had been employed at MCC since 2003.
In his new role, Stefanowicz will supervise 112 full and part-time faculty and two department chairs, along with other employees and directors from the academic division of the college. Stefanowicz, who worked at Asnuntuck Community College (ACC) 20 years ago as the college’s Tech Prep Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator, Vocational Technical Education, said he is pleased to be working again in his adopted hometown, at a small, student focused institution. He said his past experiences have prepared him for this next stage of his career which will involve managing and leading professionals at the college.
Stefanowicz said he is looking forward to experiencing all areas of the college and has plans to teach in the classroom (he has taught at MCC, Holyoke Community College and taught College Success Skills at ACC) and taking on a small group of students to advise.
The Dean noted that he is pleased to be arriving at such a promising time for the institution. New initiatives at the college, upcoming exterior changes to ACC, successful credit, non-credit and manufacturing programs, and the emphasis from President Barack Obama on community colleges, brings together a promising package for students, according to Stefanowicz. He added, “Asnuntuck is poised to take off.”
